Day 350 – FABRIC CHALLENGE

CRAFT CORNER DEATH MATCH!!

THE THEME: FABRIC CHALLENGE

I think I gasped out loud when I saw this fabric at the thrift store. I mean, sure it’s fun fur. But it’s SHERBET fun fur. STRIPED, SHERBET-COLOURED FUN FUR.

I mean, what could possibly possess someone to design this, let alone produce it?

oh, right. Drugs.

Anyway, I purchased it knowing it would be the most fabulous fabric challenge ever. Also, I’m mean.

The woman at the thrift store counter asked me what I was going to do with it, her tone of voice no different than if I’d been purchasing a bag of dead cockroaches. “I’m sending it to some friends!” I said brightly.

She replied, “Don’t like them much, do you?”

But I knew they’d be up for the challenge.

UNICORN!

For this theme, there are three other competitors:
The Harpy!
Yermits!
Sarah Apple!

Day 346 – CRAFT CORNER DEATH MATCH: Black and White and Red all over

CRAFT CORNER DEATH MATCH!!

THE THEME: BLACK AND WHITE AND RED ALL OVER

Well, I couldn’t figure out how to do a penguin with a sunburn so here is my second choice: A cardinal in a tuxedo!

Except we all know that any bird that has a mohawk as big as a cardinal isn’t going to wear any old tuxedo. Obviously they’re pretty laid back, so only a tuxedo t-shirt will do.

For this theme, there are three other competitors:
The Harpy!
Yermits!
Sarah Apple!

Day 329 – Robots vs Yermits: BATTLE READY

YERMITS VS. ROBOTS: BATTLE OF INCOMPREHENSIBILY CUTE THINGS, OR MAYBE THINGS DRESSED AS OTHER THINGS WE DIDN’T REALLY TALK ABOUT WHAT TO CALL IT.

This is week four. The Theme: BATTLE READY.

I was a little worried when creating this that I might have gone too far. This robot is, after all, wearing the skin of its Yermit enemy into battle.* That’s… well, really taking this battle thing a bit far, yes? Robots. Their primary progamming is to be a jerk.

And, okay, I know. Ewoks as back-up? Ewoks are tiny. Tiny, and adorable. They are little, chirpy teddy bears. Probably, in imperial space, their pelts would be prized as moustache toupees for those with bald upper lips.

But damn! They can kick some stormtrooper butt. Using nothing but logs and vines. And okay. Stormtroopers are a special kind of stupid, let’s face it. But still. Ewoks. The are at the perfect level to hamstring their foes. Um. assuming that their foes are approximately stormtrooper height, of course.

And they’ve got the robot’s back. That’s gotta count for something.

*no Yermits were harmed in the making of this challenge.

Here is Jenny Yermit’sfantastic entry:

It is wearing robot guts. HILARIOUS. I love that we both went for the same concept. Also, clearly, we’re both deeply disturbed.

NEXT WEEK’S THEME: oh wait we haven’t decided yet. TO BE ANNOUNCED!

Day 324 – Praying Mantis Bot

Those of you who follow my twitter might have noticed that I asked for some robot ideas this week.

And then I didn’t use any of them. *

Instead, I was checking out the other Robot-a-Day’s blog, and upon seeing his golden mantis, realized that I am quite remiss in my terrifying insect quota.

And dude, these things are totally terrifying. Remember when Xander almost got sexed up and eaten by an inexplicably giant english-speaking one? That could teach science, even though the whole premise of the episode was sorely lacking in any scientific plausibilty at all? I waited all season for that stupid egg at the end of the episode to hatch.

*ha, sorry! Maybe next week.

Day 311 – T-Rex bot

Besides the fact that it could totally eat you, I think it would be kinda fun to ride a T-rex. More fun than a stegosaurus, that’s for sure.

Day 309 – Warthog Bot

I was at a loss as to what to write about warthogs, so I asked my partner what to write. He summed it up nicely:

“Don’t mess with warthogs. They’ll fuck you up”

So. Warthogs. Don’t mess with them.

Day 290 – Werewolf Bot

This was actually one of the first bots I planned on making, but then I realized that inside-out bots are hard. So I procrastinated. FOR OVER A YEAR.

Mostly, I think the transformation looks….. unpleasant.

Day 269 – David Suzuki Bot

Normally, I try to stay away from doing bots based on real people, but my brother’s been pulling for a David Suzuki bot for a long while now.

Though I don’t think this particular image is what he had in mind.

I’m tricky like that.

Don’t get it? David Suzuki is a Canadian Super Genius of Science and Being Awesome. Famously, he appeared clad only in a leaf on the cover of TV Guide in 1999; at which time he was 64. I’m not really sure what that has to do with saving the planet, though. But hey, if he ever decides to take up a superhero costume, we know spandex is a good option.
