Day 341 – CRAFT CORNER DEATH MATCH: Historical Facial Hair

CRAFT CORNER DEATH MATCH!!

THE THEME: HISTORICAL FACIAL HAIR

This theme is near and dear to my heart. History! Facial Hair! AWESOMENESS.

So, maybe I went a bit overboard:

Okay. I’m hoping these dudes will all be familiar to you, but for your illumination (L to R, just like reading):

1. Wyatt Earp – Cowboy. ‘Nuff said.
2. Darwin – Amazing genius, sussed out evolution.
3. Nietzsche – Wrote a bunch of stuff, had a complicated last name.
4. Van Gogh – Painter, friend to Doctor Who.
5. Hulk Hogan – I think he was a wrestler? And a Nanny?
6. Dali – Melted some clocks.
7. Wild Bill – Best chum of Calamity Jane, super sass factory.
8. Einstein – Adorable super genius who didn’t know his own phone number. Who does?
9. Lincoln – Zombie hunter.
10. Ambrose Burnside – BAMF who has such awesome facial hair that the term side burns was names after him.
11. Dread Pirate Blackbeard – Sailed the seas, wrecked some havoc.
12. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle – wrote some stories that eventually introduced me to the excellentness that is Benedict Cumberbatch. Thank you, good sir.

For this theme, there are four competitors: me (duh), The Harpy!, Yermits and Sarah Apple!

Day 340 – CRAFT CORNER DEATH MATCH: a bum sitting on an address

CRAFT CORNER DEATH MATCH!!

This is week fourteen! This week is a bit different, we have TWO CHALLENGES. TWO. THAT IS TWICE AS MUCH AWESOMENESS!

This is the second challenge! For this theme, there are three competitors: me (duh), Yermits and Sarah Apple!

The Theme: A bum sitting on an address.

This… needs a bit of explaining. I had hoped to move our Craft Corner Death Match blog to its own domain, but someone is sitting on craftcornerdeathmatch.com (they want $500 for it. psh). So I tweeted that some bum was sitting on the address… and thus a theme was born.

But me, I am literal. When I hear “bum sitting on an address” I think this:

yup.

Day 339 – CRAFT CORNER DEATH MATCH: You, as vermin

CRAFT CORNER DEATH MATCH!!

This is week fourteen! This week is a bit different, we have TWO CHALLENGES. TWO. THAT IS TWICE AS MUCH AWESOMENESS FOR YOU!

This is the first challenge! For this theme, there are four competitors: me (duh), Yermits, Sarah Apple, and a new contender, The Harpy!

The Theme: Self-portrait As Vermin.

This is me! Those are my glasses, that is my green cardigan that will never stay closed (but has pockets and is so comfy I wear it all the time anyways), those are my sassy cowboy boots that I scored at the thrift store for $4 (now holey and only to be worn in dry weather to ensure dry feet). And of course, there is a leetle robot.

Oh, and a coffee. You might remember that I like coffee? I ALSO SPILL IT EVERY DAMN DAY. So there is the spill.

And why a racoon you might ask? Because they have chubby hips and clever hands. And if the bags under my eyes get any bigger, they might start to look like a bandit mask.

Day 338: CRAFT CORNER DEATH MATCH: Chapped Lips

YERMITS VS. ROBOTS VS APPLES: BATTLE OF INCOMPREHENSIBILY CUTE THINGS, OR MAYBE THINGS DRESSED AS OTHER THINGS WE DIDN’T REALLY TALK ABOUT WHAT TO CALL IT.

CRAFT CORNER DEATH MATCH!!(we have a shiny new title, thanks to Sarah Apple)

This is week thirteen! The Theme: CHAPS AND LIPS.

Chaps and Lips! Cowboys! kissing! Hooray!

Wait.

oh.

oh crap.

It’s CHAPPED LIPS?

really?

oh dear.

um…. oops:

Here is Jenny Yermit’s chapped entry:

Her outfit matches her lips! Winter chic. It makes me want to whip out the chap stick just looking at her!

Here is Sarah Apple’s lippy entry:

check out her entry to see the insane amount of work she put into those lips.

Day 337- Yermits vs Robots: FABRIC SWAP

YERMITS VS. ROBOTS VS APPLES: BATTLE OF INCOMPREHENSIBILY CUTE THINGS, OR MAYBE THINGS DRESSED AS OTHER THINGS WE DIDN’T REALLY TALK ABOUT WHAT TO CALL IT.

This is week twelve! The Theme: Fabric Swap.

This week Jenny and I swapped some fabric, with the caveat that one had to use the fabric in this week’s entry. Here is the amazing stuff I got:

The possibilities! I thought and thought and thought, but there was one idea this fabric kept screaming at me:

This dude looks totally legit! Let’s buy our car from him!

Here is Jenny Yermit’s sparkling entry:

Pink! sparkles! I love the horns, I love the sweater. It’s adorable! And I’m sorry that fabric shed all over your room. But… pink sparkles make it all better, right?

NEXT WEEK: did we have a theme? fairy tales? odious people? pet peeves?

Day 335 – Yermits vs Robots vs Apples: The Berlin Wall

YERMITS VS. ROBOTS VS APPLES: BATTLE OF INCOMPREHENSIBILY CUTE THINGS, OR MAYBE THINGS DRESSED AS OTHER THINGS WE DIDN’T REALLY TALK ABOUT WHAT TO CALL IT.

This is week ten! The Theme: The Berlin Wall.

This week is EXTRA AWESOME because this week, we have a guest contestant!

Do you know of the Sarah Apple? One time we were stuck on a plane that was going to crash into a mountain and she sewed all the seat covers into a giant parachute, slung me over her shoulder, and jumped out of the plane to safety. On the gentle descent down, she knit me a pair of socks while singing me a german lullaby.

TRUE STORY.

Anyway. This week’s theme is HARD. HARD LIKE A CONCRETE WALL.

Look, I was like, 8 years old when the Berlin Wall came down. You know what I remember about that time? “Oh, a wall. HOLY CRAP A MY LITTLE PONY COMMERCIAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!one!!!!!!!!”

So I had to do a little research. You know what’s hard to find the funny in? Yep, the Berlin Wall. Not a lot of funny there. But one thing that really stuck out at my was the number of banana jokes that purportedly originated in East Berlin. Luxury goods and exotic foods were hard to come by, so bananas seem to stand in for a lot of the food disparities between East and West.

So of course my Berlin Bot has a banana!

Here is Jenny Yermit’s genius entry:

A TOURIST. This is the smartest solution to the theme, I wish I’d thought of it!

And here is where Sarah Apple’s entry will be!

check out her entry to see his wild side. Love this guy- so adorable!

DAY 334 – Yermits vs Robots; Living in Canada

YERMITS VS. ROBOTS: BATTLE OF INCOMPREHENSIBILY CUTE THINGS, OR MAYBE THINGS DRESSED AS OTHER THINGS WE DIDN’T REALLY TALK ABOUT WHAT TO CALL IT.

This is week nine! The Theme: LIVING IN CANADA.

Did you know? I totally live in Canada. It’s like living in the United States, except that we have universal health care and we’re polite. ZING. Or like living in Britain, except their national hero is Dactor Who, and ours is David Suzuki.

Oh yeah, AND WE RIDE POLAR BEARS TO WORK. NO REALLY. IT’S TRUE.

Mine is named Horatio.

And no, we don’t all live in igloos. That’s just silly.

Here is Jenny Yermit’s totally Canadian entry:

Canadian to the core. Donuts! Hat! Mitts! Boots and shorts all year!

NEXT WEEK’S THEME: TBA

DAY 332 – Yermits vs Robots; Robot as a Yermit / Yermit as a Robot

YERMITS VS. ROBOTS: BATTLE OF INCOMPREHENSIBILY CUTE THINGS, OR MAYBE THINGS DRESSED AS OTHER THINGS WE DIDN’T REALLY TALK ABOUT WHAT TO CALL IT.

This is week seven (really? seven?). The Theme: ROBOT AS YERMIT / YERMIT AS ROBOT.

I present: A ROBOT AS A YERMIT! I wish I’d thought of this 300 bots ago- it would have made this project WAY EASIER:

Okay, I’m just joking. Here’s the real one:

It’s a drunken bear! Though it does kinda look like Teen Wolf Gets a Job at Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce.

Here is Jenny Yermit’s robotically awesome entry:

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! amazing. How does Jenny do this every week?

NEXT WEEK’S THEME: NASA! SPACE SHUTTLE! YEAH!

Day 329 – Robots vs Yermits: BATTLE READY

YERMITS VS. ROBOTS: BATTLE OF INCOMPREHENSIBILY CUTE THINGS, OR MAYBE THINGS DRESSED AS OTHER THINGS WE DIDN’T REALLY TALK ABOUT WHAT TO CALL IT.

This is week four. The Theme: BATTLE READY.

I was a little worried when creating this that I might have gone too far. This robot is, after all, wearing the skin of its Yermit enemy into battle.* That’s… well, really taking this battle thing a bit far, yes? Robots. Their primary progamming is to be a jerk.

And, okay, I know. Ewoks as back-up? Ewoks are tiny. Tiny, and adorable. They are little, chirpy teddy bears. Probably, in imperial space, their pelts would be prized as moustache toupees for those with bald upper lips.

But damn! They can kick some stormtrooper butt. Using nothing but logs and vines. And okay. Stormtroopers are a special kind of stupid, let’s face it. But still. Ewoks. The are at the perfect level to hamstring their foes. Um. assuming that their foes are approximately stormtrooper height, of course.

And they’ve got the robot’s back. That’s gotta count for something.

*no Yermits were harmed in the making of this challenge.

Here is Jenny Yermit’sfantastic entry:

It is wearing robot guts. HILARIOUS. I love that we both went for the same concept. Also, clearly, we’re both deeply disturbed.

NEXT WEEK’S THEME: oh wait we haven’t decided yet. TO BE ANNOUNCED!
